For artists, authors & scenographers

Your sound work,
in the real landscape.

Geolocated fiction, documentary walk, a poem to be walked, a listening game: compose an experience the audience lives on its feet, your voice in their ears and your setting before their eyes.
The most intimate format there is — and the only one where the landscape works for you.

The Studio runs in your browser, and the free tier is yours for as long as you want it. The listening happens outdoors.

No more waiting on a vendor

Off-the-shelf audio guides are hard-coded: you cannot try anything without going through somebody, and every tweak costs a meeting. Here you place, you listen, you move things. As often as you like.

01 / Hands on the work

You build it yourself

You drop the sounds on the map, you draw the zones where they trigger, you set what happens on the way in, while inside, on the way out. Not a line of code.

02 / Try it right away

You test without going out

The virtual explorer replays your tour inside the Studio: you stroll with the mouse and hear exactly what the audience will hear. Only then do you go and walk it for real, and note what falls flat.

03 / The right to be wrong

Nothing is final

Every saved state of the tour is kept. You compare, you roll back, you start again from an earlier version. Creation breathes better when mistakes are allowed.

04 / Zero plumbing

We handle the tech

Hosting, delivery, phone compatibility, updates: that's on us. Yours is the sound.

The Studio

An editing bench laid over a map

The map on the left, your sounds in the middle, the timeline at the bottom. You record straight from the browser or import your own files, file them in the tour library, then pin them to a place.

  • Polygon zones, disks and gates to cross
  • Three moments per zone: enter, stay, exit
  • Binaural placement: every sound has a position in space
  • Field recording and audio editor built in

The Studio is made for a computer: three panels, a map and a timeline do not fit on a phone.

Two directions, to whet your appetite

These are not templates to fill in: just two paths the medium opens up, and that nobody has exhausted yet.

Direction 1

Soundscapes

Rebuild what can no longer be heard: the harbour before the cranes, the forest before the road, the workshop while it was still running. The visitor sees the present and hears what is no longer there. No image does that as well as a sound in the right place.

Direction 2

The sound quest

The treasure hunt made of sound: sounds to track down across a park, an estate, a neighbourhood, a collection to complete, clues that exist only in the ear. You walk to search, you listen to find — and you look up instead of staring at a screen.

Answering a commission

A turnkey proposal for the institution across the table

A museum, a park, a local authority commissions a piece from you? You turn up with the work and with the technical solution: nothing to install at their end, nothing to maintain, no hardware to buy. That is often what tips a bid.

  • Private preview so they can sign off before opening
  • Keep your tour, or transfer it to the client
  • Updates still possible after the opening night

Your work stays yours

The questions we always get asked first, answered straight away.

  • Ownership

    You keep your creation

Your tour is yours. Keep it private, publish it, unpublish it, or transfer it to the institution that commissioned it — your call, whenever you want.

  • Rights

    Sounds whose origin you control

Music, archives, voices: you are responsible for the rights to the sounds you upload. We check uploaded content, and a reporting feature exists on the audience side.

  • Distribution

    Three sharing circles

Private (you alone), preview (the link you send), public (in the tour catalogue). The same tour moves from one to the other without being rebuilt, and comes down as fast as it goes up.

  • Cost

A free tier, then a subscription

You start for free and keep that tier for as long as you like. The subscription comes when your tours outgrow it: quotas set how many tours and how much audio you keep online. Never a commission on your work.

  • Audience

    Free for whoever listens

We favour funding from institutions rather than from the visitor, and there will be no advertising in the app. Ever.

  • Data

    Hosted in France

Servers and files with French providers, outside the reach of the Cloud Act. The visitor's GPS coordinates never leave their phone without their explicit consent.

The first ones

We're looking for the works that will set the tone

EMVC is young, and we own it: rather than making up quotes, we would rather invite you. The first works published here will shape what the tool becomes — and we want to hear everything you find missing in it.

Your first tour is waiting

Create your account, open a tour, drop a first sound somewhere. The rest comes as you walk — and if you'd rather talk it through first, we answer.
